












Xjismu.com was designed to be Malta’s first homegrown social media platform, creating a community-driven space where users could discuss social issues, voice opinions, and drive change. The goal was to challenge passive social media consumption and foster meaningful discussions around national topics.
The platform successfully built a strong user base, reaching 1.3K+ registered users and 300K total reach across platforms. It demonstrated the demand for alternative digital spaces that prioritize engagement and activism over traditional social media models.
Unlike mainstream social media, Xjismu wasn’t built for passive scrolling. Instead, it was designed as a hub for discussion, activism, and community-driven actions. This is an overview of some of the platform’s key metrics:

Building an independent social platform was not straightforward and the biggest challenge we faced was user acquisition and retention. Growing a community from scratch required constant engagement and momentum.

An important lesson learnt was that building a brand that resonates deeply with its audience is the foundation for long-term success. If we were to revisit Xjismu, we would focus more on retention strategies and sustainable engagement models from the very start, setting the stage for continued growth and evolution.
The journey has been incredibly insightful, from branding to web/app development to community building as a whole.
